The Department focuses on two key domains: interdisciplinary exploration and reflective practice. Each student must fulfill 15 credit hours in their chosen specialization, 6 hours in the alternate domain, plus 3 elective hours that may be taken from any department. This ensures all M.Ed. candidates gain fundamental knowledge in both interdisciplinary inquiry and reflexive praxis - the core pillars shaping our educational philosophy. The ECS M.Ed. curriculum begins with a mandatory core course (3 credits). Students then choose their specialization track (either interdisciplinary inquiry or reflexive praxis, with optional ESL certification). Following their chosen path, students complete their remaining coursework as specified (24-25 credits). Degree completion requires enrollment in the M.Ed. Comprehensive Exam (3 credits, ECS 6961). The full M.Ed. program comprises 30 credit hours, expanding to 31 for those pursuing ESL certification. Prospective Ph.D. candidates should meet with the Director of Graduate Studies after completing 18 credits of their M.Ed. coursework. The ECS M.Ed. program structure includes one foundational course (3 credits). Candidates subsequently select their concentration (either social foundations education or transformative teaching, with optional ESL certification). Students then complete their remaining credits (24-25) according to their chosen track. Program requirements include the M.Ed. Comprehensive Exam (3 credits, ECS 6961). The degree totals 30 credits (31 for ESL certification). Those considering doctoral studies should consult the Director of Graduate Studies upon completing 18 credit hours.
