The Higher Education specialization within the Educational Leadership EdD program is ideal for professionals seeking to enhance their leadership skills in collegiate environments.

This Higher Education track is structured to expand the management expertise of university professionals who enter the program with existing subject-matter specialization. Participants are generally working in instructional, research, or administrative roles at community colleges, universities, or educational organizations.

Those enrolled in the Higher Education concentration typically work at two-year or four-year institutions. Their curriculum includes at least 36 credit hours of core and specialized coursework, along with two electives. Additionally, students complete 12 research method credits and 15 dissertation credits. The program requires a minimum of 63 post-master's credits, focusing on higher education as an academic discipline.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) in the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate degree. Master’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution recognized by UCF or its equivalent from a foreign institution. Minimum GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) for all graduate work at the time of application. Official, competitive GRE score, taken within the last five years. Three letters of recommendation (electronic or hard copy). Resumé/CV. Goal statement. (Describe the following: preparedness for the program, career goals related to the program, and potential area of research interest in the program.) Evidence of a minimum of one year full-time or two years part-time professional higher education work experience. Evidence may include, but not be limited to, any one of the following: work experience listed on the resume/CV with confirmation email/telephone, letter of reference, or copies of annual reviews, etc.. (Please note that graduate assistantships, teaching assistantships, internships and practica do not fulfill this requirement.) An interview may be required.
