The Ocean Sciences Department provides Master of Science and Doctoral degree programs. These graduate programs equip students for careers in research, education, and various environmental fields. Emphasizing teamwork and cross-disciplinary methods, the programs actively support diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through faculty development, peer guidance, and structured initiatives, we commit to ensuring every student's achievement.
Admission to the program requires clear evidence of exceptional academic performance and research potential. Prospective students should hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant specialty area (such as Biology, Marine Biology, Geology, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, or Physical Science) or possess equivalent knowledge. Applicants without these specific degrees must show they've completed necessary preparatory coursework. Entry requirements for both Master's and Ph.D. programs include at least two quarters or semesters each in: calculus, chemistry, biology, and physics. Additionally, one course in earth sciences/geological principles and statistics/biostatistics is mandatory.
Student must have a four-year bachelor's degree at an English-speaking institution.
English Language Testing
For those choosing to take the TOEFL, a minimum score on the paper-based TOEFL of 550, or 220 on the computer-based test, or 83 on the internet-based test is required for admission.
For those choosing to take the IELTS, a minimum overall score of 7 from the IELTS test is required for admission.
