SocDoc is a distinctive program tailored for aspiring filmmakers dedicated to driving social transformation and amplifying underrepresented voices through documenting communities, cultures, and pressing societal issues. SocDoc transcends conventional storytelling. Our philosophy and approach delve deeper—capturing the raw authenticity of lived experiences, uncovering root causes of inequality, and spotlighting urgent matters demanding attention. While narrative remains important, we view it as merely the starting point for meaningful exploration.

Under the guidance of industry-leading experts, students develop both technical proficiency and creative assurance to thrive in today's evolving documentary landscape. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on production experience, with students working individually and collaboratively to refine their craft. From mastering lighting and camera techniques to selecting compelling subjects and locations, every aspect comes into focus. Students also develop expertise in post-production elements like editing, motion graphics, promotional materials, and digital presentation. Equally vital is cultivating an ethical framework and analytical perspective—examining documentary principles, narrative approaches, and evidentiary standards. SocDoc serves as an innovative workshop where students and faculty collectively explore impactful storytelling through visual media, photography, sound, and written word.
