Where craftsmanship, design, and artistry converge, the Metalsmithing and Jewelry program offers students a comprehensive professional education that nurtures their development as autonomous creative practitioners. The curriculum covers a broad spectrum of skills, from age-old metalworking and jewelry-making methods to modern digital fabrication technologies, alongside foundational design concepts and creative thinking.
Graduate scholars enjoy dedicated studio spaces distinct from undergraduate facilities. The program expects graduate candidates to demonstrate maturity, self-direction, and substantial experience across various metalworking disciplines. As part of their degree requirements, Metalsmithing and Jewelry graduate students mount a solo exhibition showcasing their Capstone project, accompanied by a thoroughly researched supporting document. These advanced students collaborate with an interdisciplinary faculty committee of four or five members who conduct regular critiques while they pursue independent studio practice. Both scheduled and impromptu evaluations with department faculty occur as needed throughout the program.
