The Ocean Sciences Department provides Master of Science and Doctoral degree programs. These graduate programs equip students for careers in research, education, and environmental fields, emphasizing collaborative, interdisciplinary methods while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through faculty development, peer mentorship, and structured initiatives, we commit to ensuring every student's achievement in our program.
Admission requires clear evidence of exceptional academic performance and research potential. Prospective students should hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant specialty area (such as Biology, Marine Biology, Geology, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, or Physical Science) or demonstrate equivalent coursework. Applicants without these degrees must prove they've completed necessary preparatory classes. For both Master's and Ph.D. programs, prerequisites include at least two quarters or semesters each of calculus, chemistry, biology, and physics, plus one course in earth sciences/geological principles and statistics/biostatistics.
