The linguistics department provides PhD and MA programs, with their respective completion criteria outlined here. Additionally, undergraduate majors can pursue a combined BA/MA degree. This requires completing at least thirteen courses (65 units). During the initial year, students enroll in foundational courses covering phonetics, phonology, psycholinguistics, semantics, syntax, and either field or experimental methods. Typically, by the conclusion of the second year, students finish most mandatory coursework, which includes a research seminar and specialized seminars across three different disciplines.
Proficiency in reading one foreign language must be verified through an examination, preferably early in graduate studies. This assessment evaluates comprehension skills sufficient for engaging with linguistic literature in the chosen language.
Student must have a four-year bachelor's degree at an English-speaking institution.
