The CCSP Department's main objective is to equip graduates for careers in academia and research. Additionally, it aims to train psychological service professionals who, beyond offering direct client care, will shape the field through teaching, research, and leadership roles. The three core disciplines—counseling, clinical, and school psychology—have traditionally served distinct purposes: Counseling psychologists typically address life adjustment issues and career development, working in university counseling centers, VA hospitals, and community organizations. Clinical psychologists specialize in assessing and treating severe mental health conditions, primarily employed in mental health facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and hospital psychiatric units. School psychologists focus on student assessment, developmental support, and intervention, with most working in K-12 educational settings, both public and private.
