Every student's course schedule requires faculty advisor approval before registering for classes each term, including any modifications during the quarter. (Available exclusively under the Comprehensive Examination Plan.) A total of 48 approved course units are mandatory. Among these, a maximum of 8 units may come from upper-level Mathematics or related disciplines, pending approval. Additionally, up to 8 units can be graduate-level courses from other departments. Typically, MATH 295 and MATH 500 don't contribute to the 48-unit requirement, nor do seminar courses unless the student demonstrates significant involvement. Full-time enrollment demands registration for at least twelve (12) units per quarter, with eight (8) being graduate mathematics courses graded on a letter basis.
