The department excels in global and comparative research, featuring experts who analyze case studies from diverse regions such as Europe, East Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and the United States. It also leads in cultural approaches to social issues, examining meaning-making and identity formation across various sociological subfields. Our program aims to equip students for two primary objectives: advancing sociological knowledge and teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Most alumni secure teaching and research roles in higher education, while others pursue careers in nonacademic research and social policy. The department provides a doctoral program (Ph.D.) and does not admit students seeking solely a master's degree.
