Students pursuing biophysics will earn their MS and CPhil degrees in physics, with their PhD specifically focused on biophysics within the physics discipline. The doctoral program includes graduate-level coursework, research apprenticeships, teaching components, and thesis work. Active biophysics research occurs across multiple departments (physics, chemistry/biochemistry, and biology), which provide both specialized and related coursework. While the biophysics specialization shares most requirements with the standard physics PhD—including core/elective courses, qualifying exams, teaching obligations, and thesis defense—there are minor variations in the core/elective course requirements and advanced coursework compared to the traditional physics PhD track.
