Physical Oceanography examines how energy moves through oceans and across their boundaries, along with the sea's physical relationships with its environment, particularly how oceans affect atmospheric climate patterns. Those accepted into the Climate-Ocean-Atmosphere Program (COAP) select an academic focus area by the conclusion of autumn quarter. Students receive guidance in this decision from their advisory committee, featuring a chairperson from one of COAP's academic tracks.
