The UC San Diego Materials Science and Engineering Program brings together faculty from multiple disciplines across campus. Professors from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE), Physics, Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), Structural Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), NanoEngineering, Chemistry, and Bioengineering all contribute to this interdisciplinary initiative. Program leadership falls to the Director, who works with an executive committee to oversee operations. This committee manages all aspects of the program - from student admissions and degree criteria to coordinating graduate-level materials science courses offered by participating departments. They also oversee instructional labs, seminar series, specialized courses, adjunct faculty appointments, and other program-related activities.
