The Department of Psychology at UC San Diego offers specialized research training across diverse areas of experimental psychology. Established in 1960 with Scripps Institution of Oceanography as its foundation, UC San Diego has grown into a globally recognized research institution. The Psychology Department launched in 1965 under founding chair George Mandler, alongside pioneering faculty members William J. McGill and Norman H. Anderson. These visionaries championed psychology as an empirical laboratory science.
