Undoubtedly, the 21st century presents significant environmental challenges as we strive to meet the needs of over 7.5 billion people for food, energy, materials, and essential services. The Environmental Systems Program (ESYS) addresses the increasing need for environmental experts by equipping undergraduates for diverse careers and advanced studies across natural sciences, social sciences, public policy, law, and business. This cross-disciplinary approach acknowledges that environmental issues transcend conventional academic boundaries. Society often struggles with complex environmental management partly due to a shortage of professionals skilled in interdisciplinary analytical approaches. Many environmental experts lack comprehensive training in natural sciences, including core concepts and methods of earth and environmental sciences. The environmental systems major was specifically designed to overcome these limitations.
