Geobiology explores the dynamic relationship between Earth and its living systems. This multidisciplinary field investigates how life has shaped and been shaped by our planet throughout geological history, while also examining current biological interactions with Earth's physical and chemical processes—potentially extending to other celestial bodies. The discipline integrates elements from paleobiology, biogeochemistry, geomicrobiology, and astrobiology. The academic curriculum equips students with comprehensive scientific training, particularly in earth and life sciences, blending coursework from both domains. Fieldwork opportunities allow students to examine environmental systems and ecosystems firsthand. Through a senior thesis project, undergraduates develop research skills while learning to analyze data and communicate scientific findings effectively. Qualification Requirements
The majority of Penn State’s applications come from traditional, first-year students.
