The Music Humanities degree program is designed for students seeking a comprehensive liberal arts education with music as a core component. This major focuses on musical history and literature while providing flexibility for students to concentrate on a particular humanities discipline. Students can tailor their studies by selecting six upper-level humanities or fine arts courses centered around a unifying theme. Past students have combined coursework from diverse fields including Philosophy, History, Literature, Visual Arts, Theater, Anthropology, and Ethnic Studies. UC San Diego's undergraduate offerings include bachelor's degrees in music, music humanities, and ICAM (Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts). The program cultivates both musical appreciation and performance abilities across classical and modern musical traditions.
