The orchestral conducting program provides a unique chance for an emerging conductor to work as an assistant alongside Principal Conductor Peter Oundjian and visiting conductors. This role includes readying the Yale Philharmonia through two comprehensive rehearsals for every concert program. The selected student also gets to lead two Yale Philharmonia performances themselves. Under Prof. Oundjian's guidance, the conducting student gains hands-on experience directing various ensembles during rehearsals and concerts. Their technical skills and overall musicianship are further refined through mandatory score-reading and analysis courses, with a strong focus on orchestral works.
