Classical studies focuses on exploring the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome, spanning approximately from Homer's era to the period of St. Augustine, examining all facets of these societies. This interdisciplinary program enables undergraduate students to investigate Greek and Roman cultures by drawing on courses from the Departments of History, Literature, Philosophy, Political Science, and Visual Arts. Students pursuing classical studies can craft a customized BA major by selecting courses across these six departments. Learning ancient Greek and Latin languages forms the foundation for deeper analysis of texts within their literary, philosophical, and historical frameworks.
