The BA/MPP is a collaborative initiative between UC San Diego's Department of Economics and the School of Global Policy and Strategy. This accelerated program integrates graduate-level classes during students' senior year while pursuing their Bachelor of Arts in Economics-Public Policy. After completing their undergraduate requirements, participants spend an additional year as graduate students to earn their Master of Public Policy degree. The comprehensive curriculum focuses on economic theory, policy evaluation, fiscal systems, political aspects of policy formation, legal frameworks, institutional operations, and includes specialized training in technical skills like GIS. Students also dedicate a full year to mastering a specific public policy concentration. This five-year dual degree opportunity, exclusively available to UC San Diego Economics majors, combines rigorous academic training with practical policy expertise.
