This program equips students for professional roles blending economics and computer technology, as well as academic research careers focusing on the intersection of these fields. Students can opt for either the A.B. or Sc.B. degree track. The A.B. degree provides flexibility to study both disciplines through upper-level courses while maintaining a broad liberal arts focus with fewer required classes. The Sc.B. degree offers more intensive study in both computer science and economics through additional coursework, including a creative integration project. All students must complete courses in economics, computer science, and applied mathematics, along with fulfilling the Computer Science department's writing requirement through an expository writing-intensive course. Both standard and professional tracks are available.
Students should complete secondary school. Brown first-year students will have completed 12 to 13 years of primary and secondary schooling.
A TOEFL score of 100 or above on the internet-based exam, or 600 or above on the paper-based exam, or a score of 8.0 or above on the IELTS, is expected in most cases.
