Power systems engineering is a specialized field within electrical engineering focused on electricity generation, distribution, and management. The traditional power grid is undergoing a significant evolution toward Smart Grid technology. Essentially, Smart Grids incorporate digital communication capabilities that enable bidirectional interaction between utilities and consumers, along with advanced monitoring across transmission networks. These intelligent systems enhance efficiency, improve outage resistance, and better accommodate renewable energy sources like wind and solar, as well as large-scale battery storage solutions. As an Electrical Engineering MS student at UC Riverside, you can pursue focused studies in Smart Grids and Power Systems. The program offers specialized courses such as:

Smart Grid Fundamentals
Power System Operations and Market Structures
Distribution Network Engineering
Power System Stability and Dynamics
