The M.S. program has three key goals: preparing graduates for diverse biomedical careers in biotechnology, science communication, and public engagement upon earning their terminal master's degree.
To function as a decision-making platform for students evaluating whether to pursue M.D. or Ph.D. programs in medicine, research, or related health fields while obtaining their master's degree.
To provide medical students opportunities to enhance their clinical training with specialized biomedical research expertise through a combined M.D.-M.S. degree program.
This Biomedical Sciences Master's Program perfectly serves: a) aspiring researchers exploring career directions, b) medical students pursuing investigative work, and c) candidates seeking an advanced degree before entering industry, science communication, or healthcare professions. Participants join an active biomedical community featuring dedicated faculty, research possibilities, and specialized graduate coursework with flexible curriculum tracks.
The program features three distinct academic pathways with shared core requirements but unique career-focused specializations. Students can transition between tracks or combine them when appropriate, with course selection guided by faculty advisors through personalized development plans.
Interested candidates can apply directly at https://biomed.ucr.edu/admissions, with March 1 as the Fall Quarter priority deadline. Winter and Spring admissions may be available. Applicants should indicate their preferred academic track or note if undecided during the application process.
