The terminal M.A. program enables students to investigate religious studies from a broader academic perspective, designed for those seeking to deepen their understanding of religions in a scholarly setting without necessarily pursuing an academic career. Participants can select between two tracks: the M.A.-I, which involves writing a publishable Master's thesis and is ideal for students considering Ph.D. studies, or the M.A.-II, which provides a versatile culminating project tailored for careers in fields like museums, K-12 education, nonprofits, journalism, or public policy. IMPORTANT: According to University of California policies, individuals with an existing master's degree in religious studies are ineligible for this program. This restriction does not apply to holders of professional religious degrees such as theology (e.g., MTS) or ministry (e.g., M.Div., D.Min.).
