Political Economy and Global Social Change (PEGSC) draws from foundational political economy thinkers like Karl Marx, David Ricardo, Adam Smith, Max Weber, Emile Durkheim, and Karl Polanyi, while incorporating contemporary political economy theories. This focus area combines practical studies of global cities, population and environmental trends, workforce systems, extensive social connections, wealth disparities, changing international labor divisions, worldwide democratic developments, and broad comparative assessments of political-economic trends. Faculty members employ diverse research methodologies in political economy studies, spanning statistical modeling, social network examination, population analysis techniques, observational and ethnographic research, as well as historical comparisons using both qualitative and quantitative approaches.
