The Graduate Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, equipping students for scientific careers through advanced study in these fields while fostering analytical thinking and innovation. The curriculum focuses on comprehensive subject mastery while allowing personalized course choices aligned with each student's research focus and academic goals. Diverse research opportunities span multiple specialties such as molecular biology, physical biochemistry, endocrinology, plant biochemistry, cellular signaling, and biomedical investigations. These programs thoroughly prepare graduates for academic roles, teaching positions, or research careers across fundamental and applied sciences in various institutional settings.
Program faculty include biochemistry and molecular biology experts from the Biochemistry Department, alongside collaborators from seven additional departments: Entomology, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular, Cell, and Systems Biology, Microbiology & Plant Pathology, Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology, Chemistry, Botany and Plant Sciences, and the Bourns School of Engineering. Our program uniquely blends the resources and research scope of a major university with the personalized mentorship and cross-disciplinary collaboration typical of smaller academic environments, creating an ideal setting for advanced biochemical and molecular biological studies.
