The Department of Mathematics provides a Bachelor of Science degree with programs built on a strong, shared mathematical core while offering distinct specializations in both pure and applied mathematics. These programs serve as excellent preparation for careers in mathematics or various scientific and business fields that rely heavily on mathematical techniques in our technology-driven world.
The Mathematics B.S. program features a more technical curriculum with deeper focus on the major field. The Pure Mathematics track caters to students considering advanced studies in theoretical mathematics.
The General Applied Mathematics option targets students potentially interested in graduate studies in applied mathematics. Other Applied Mathematics specializations - including Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Environmental Sciences, Physics, and Statistics - combine rigorous mathematical training with significant coursework in the chosen discipline. The Computational Mathematics program equips students for professional careers involving computer systems and prepares them for graduate studies in computer science.
