The Mathematics Department provides a Bachelor of Science degree with six distinct pathways. Alongside the general track, students can choose from five focused areas: Mathematical Biology, Mathematical Finance, Applied and Computational Mathematics, Mathematics for Education, and Mathematics for Education with Secondary Teaching Certification. The department also features minor programs in Mathematics and Mathematics for Biology. Undergraduate math courses cater to diverse needs: foundational courses for advanced studies in math, exact sciences, and engineering; classes tailored for social and biological science majors; and offerings for liberal arts students and future educators.
Data Science combines mathematical, computational, and statistical approaches to derive meaningful patterns from diverse datasets. Professionals in this field create mathematical frameworks, computational algorithms, and statistical techniques to examine, interpret, and forecast data-driven scenarios. The interdisciplinary Data Science concentration provides comprehensive education in the fundamental components of the discipline: mathematics, statistics, and computer science, blending theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
