Liberal Studies serves as the ideal major for those pursuing careers in elementary education. In accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act, future educators must prove their subject-matter expertise to meet federal qualifications. The Liberal Studies curriculum features foundational lower-division courses that offer comprehensive subject knowledge, equipping students to successfully pass the CSET exam and become competent educators. Five specialized upper-division tracks enable students to enhance their skills while aligning with core Education coursework. The Prepare to Teach Program, available to undergraduates across all majors considering elementary teaching in California, helps aspiring educators reflect on their academic subjects, gain hands-on classroom experience, and explore teaching as a profession. This initiative provides crucial guidance on meeting state teaching requirements during undergraduate studies and preparing to instruct mandated subjects in California elementary schools.
