The department provides a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature. This interdisciplinary field is explored on a global scale. At UCR, the Comparative Literature program is structured around a dedicated team of comparatists, supported by expert faculty from various departments. The field fosters examination of literary connections across diverse cultural traditions, while at the graduate level, it aims to advance research into cross-disciplinary links. Both undergraduate and graduate Comparative Literature courses mandate that majors engage with texts in their original languages whenever feasible (two languages for undergraduates, which may include English, and three for graduates). Students not majoring in the field may use English translations for all readings, while Comparative Literature majors also have the option to utilize translated materials.
