Students must have bachelor's degree in chemistry, geology, physics, astronomy, or a related field is required.
Applicants must have outstanding records in the relevant basic sciences and mathematics. Qualified students may proceed directly toward the Ph.D., although most obtain the M.S. degree in the process.
