Welcome to the Chemistry Department at the University of Maine. As the sole institution in Maine providing both Ph.D. and M.S. programs in chemistry, we take great pride in our academic offerings. Our faculty and graduate students participate in diverse chemistry research areas. With smaller research groups, we foster close collaboration between students and professors. Numerous teams work on interdisciplinary projects, creating opportunities to partner with engineers, materials scientists, biologists, and education researchers.

Most of our graduate students pursue Ph.D. degrees, with all typically receiving teaching assistant support during their first year. Research assistantships become available, generally starting in the second year. We ensure continuous financial support for all students maintaining satisfactory progress until degree completion.
