Structures (Structural Mechanics and Earthquake Engineering): Investigations in structural mechanics focus on enhancing engineers' capacity to analyze and predict structural performance through computational modeling and experimental methods. Key research domains encompass finite-element simulations, computational mechanics, dynamic structural responses, nonlinear material behavior, composite micromechanics, fracture mechanics, structural optimization, probabilistic assessments of static and dynamic systems, and experimental stress evaluation. Earthquake engineering studies aim to develop resilient structural systems through large-scale reinforced concrete testing, soil-structure interaction modeling, seismic-resistant masonry design, and earthquake-proof building and bridge construction. Academic and research efforts in seismic engineering concentrate on evaluating how both new and aging structures withstand seismic activity, with particular attention to reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, and wood constructions. The program stresses combining computational analyses with laboratory and field testing to refine analytical techniques, design approaches, and construction guidelines. Additional emphasis is placed on reliability-based design frameworks and performance evaluation methods.
