The field of bioengineering at UCLA originated during the 1970s, initially focusing on medical implants and imaging technologies. Established two decades ago, the Bioengineering Department has cultivated exceptional research and educational initiatives. Our academic and research efforts concentrate on five key domains: molecular/cellular/tissue engineering, biomedical devices and instrumentation, medical imaging, biomedical data science, and neural engineering. Presently, the department comprises 14 core faculty members and is actively expanding to welcome new talent. Furthermore, our department benefits from the collective expertise of 28 joint faculty, 77 affiliated faculty, and 4 adjunct faculty spanning engineering, medicine, physical sciences, life sciences, and industry. We actively collaborate with various academic units across UCLA, fostering innovative, cross-disciplinary partnerships in biomedical engineering research and education.
