Welcome to UCLA's East Asian Studies MA Interdepartmental Degree Program website. Our selective yet personalized program combines the knowledge of more than 60 UCLA faculty specializing in East Asia. We offer advanced courses and language instruction customized to each student's requirements. Bridge the transition from undergraduate studies to your East Asia-focused goals by developing language skills and specialized training, including doctoral-level courses. All this while enjoying Los Angeles and Southern California's unique environment, where East Asian cultural influences are woven into daily life.
Our program's tailored approach equips graduates for diverse career paths, from business and government roles to admission into prestigious PhD programs, including UCLA's. With students from varied backgrounds and LA's cultural diversity, we deliver an exceptional graduate education experience.
An international student whose post-secondary education is completed outside of the U.S. is expected to hold a degree representing completion of at least four years of study with above average scholarship from a university or university-level institution.
IELTS Academic overall band score should be at least 7.0 is the minimum required.
TOEFL score on the paper and pencil test must be at least 560 or at least 87 on the internet-based test.
