The Indian Law specialization includes courses on federal Indian law, tribal legal systems, and cultural property law. As a leading resource for Native Nations, UCLA Law's Native Nations Law & Policy Center strengthens tribal laws and institutions while safeguarding cultural heritage. Through the Tribal Legal Development Clinic, law students collaborate directly with tribal leaders, officials, and lawyers to deliver legal support services. This clinic undertakes non-litigation projects initiated by tribes, addressing diverse topics. Student teams work closely with tribal liaisons and create deliverables under the guidance of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Tribal Legal Development Clinic Director.
UCLA Law partners with UCLA's American Indian Studies Program to provide a four-year dual degree program. This curriculum prepares law graduates with deep cultural knowledge of tribal communities, enriching their legal expertise, improving their practice in Indian law, and better equipping them to serve tribal nations. The program covers pertinent tribal, U.S., and international legal frameworks.
