UCLA is globally renowned for its outstanding contributions to Addiction research, a field that integrates multiple disciplines and translational neuroscience approaches. Studies explore addiction's root causes, from genetic factors to neural characteristics and the full clinical presentation. Current initiatives examine diverse addictive conditions, including substance use disorders (stimulants, opioids, alcohol, and tobacco) and behavioral addictions, backed by multiple NIH-funded centers and educational initiatives. The university excels particularly in molecular/cellular neurobiology, neuroimaging, and behavioral neuroscience. Students in the Addiction FAR program will become part of a vibrant, collaborative environment with access to numerous seminars and specialized courses.
