Each student is assigned a guidance committee that includes an advisor and a minimum of two additional faculty members with expertise related to their specialization. The department chair appoints the advisor to serve on this committee. Typically, this guidance committee also functions as the departmental representatives on the doctoral committee.
Newly enrolled students should schedule an advising session at the start of their first term. In this initial meeting, students and advisors collaborate to establish a course schedule and academic plan. For following terms, students must consult with their advisor to review their quarterly plans and secure approval for their course selections. Should modifications to the approved study list be necessary after graduate advisor approval, these changes require authorization from either the department chair or graduate advisor prior to online enrollment. The department mandates that all petitions must bear the signature of either the chair or graduate advisor for official approval.
