The Jewish history program at UCLA offers students comprehensive education in Jewish intellectual, cultural, and social history. Learners benefit from the extensive resources of a prominent History Department and a distinguished Center for Jewish Studies.
The Jewish history faculty includes Jessica Goldberg, associate professor of medieval history and current program coordinator; David N. Myers, professor of Jewish history; and Sarah Abrevaya Stein, professor of history and holder of the Maurice Amado Chair in Sephardic Studies.
This program enables students to gain knowledge across all eras of Jewish history, from ancient times to the contemporary period. Faculty emphasize that Jewish history should be examined within its diverse historical settings. Therefore, students must complete coursework in both Jewish history and disciplines connected to their specific focus areas (such as Ancient, Medieval, European, Middle Eastern, or American studies).
