The materials engineering curriculum prepares students for professional careers in the materials sector by providing comprehensive knowledge of how material microstructure influences properties. Coursework covers metals, ceramics, polymers, and the design, production, and evaluation of various materials including oxides, glasses, and fiber-reinforced composites. As part of the Materials Engineering major, students learn fundamental principles of metallurgy along with ceramic and polymer science.
Additionally, the department offers an electronic materials program that establishes a solid foundation in materials science while allowing specialization in substances used for electronic and optoelectronic devices. This program integrates multiple electrical engineering courses alongside the standard Materials Science curriculum.
