Students pursuing Southeast Asian Studies select a primary language focus in Filipino, Indonesian, Thai, or Vietnamese, while also developing comprehensive cultural understanding through coursework spanning the Southeast Asian region. This dual approach equips learners with both linguistic proficiency and the contextual knowledge needed to interact with diverse Southeast Asian cultures. Graduates of this program gain the language abilities and cultural insights required for careers across multiple sectors involving Southeast Asia, such as commerce, banking, international trade, media, foreign relations, arts organizations, NGOs, teaching, and research.
As an undergraduate you may apply for admission as a freshman first year or a transfer student. Youre a freshman applicant if you completed secondary school and have not enrolled in a regular session at any college or university UCLA does not admit students into any undergraduate program who already hold Bachelors degrees nor do we admit students who have the equivalent of three years 130 quarter-units or more of transferable university work You may not disregard your college record and apply as a freshman. 3.4 GPA - Non-residents must earn a minimum 3.4 GPA in all A-G or college-preparatory courses to meet this requirement. International Baccalaureate IB Students enrolled in IB schools are expected to earn scores of 5 or higher on IB exams and most admitted students score 38 plus or 42 points on the IB Diploma. Transcripts and Official Records - They require records from the secondary schools you have attended that show subjects taken and grades received as well as any national or government certificates earned.
