The Bachelor of Arts in Scandinavian Languages and Cultures aims to educate undergraduates in the linguistic, literary, and cultural traditions of the Nordic nations (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland). This major is designed to give students comprehensive yet in-depth understanding of the region's languages, literature, and cultural heritage. Our curriculum covers five centuries, five nations, and five languages.
Learners will gain exceptional access to studying Nobel laureates' literary works, analyzing over a hundred years of Scandinavian cinema, and exploring these nations' historical and folkloric traditions. Graduates will achieve advanced fluency in one Scandinavian language, reading competence in two others, extensive knowledge of the region's print and media evolution (dating to the early medieval era), and solid grounding in its intellectual history. This program prepares students for graduate studies in Scandinavian or Germanic disciplines, film/theater/design programs, professional degrees in law or business, government/NGO positions, or private sector careers requiring Nordic language and cultural expertise.
