Political Science examines human relationships and the power structures we create to organize society. These systems range from formal institutions like voting processes, international tribunals, and government divisions to informal practices such as cultural traditions, public debates, and various forms of civic engagement including sports, protests, and online communities. What unites these political expressions is the recognition that human coexistence requires innovative approaches to power distribution. Aristotle's assertion that humans are inherently political beings remains foundational. Political Science seeks to explore both this inherent political nature and the varied historical and modern manifestations of political behavior.
Prospective Political Science majors must initially declare as Prepolitical Science students. Upon completing prerequisite coursework, they should apply for full major status at the Undergraduate Office in 4269 Bunche Hall.
