Alongside the B.S. Ed., undergraduates can pursue a B.A. in their field before entering the Graduate School for Master's-level teaching credentials. The College of Education offers Teach in 12, an accelerated one-year post-graduate certification program, alongside traditional certification routes. Certification graduate credits may count toward a Master's in Secondary Education with supplementary coursework. Prospective Master's-level teacher candidates should reach out to the College of Education's advising office (OASIS) at 314-516-5937. Important: DESE mandates a 3.0 GPA in both discipline-specific and professional education courses, plus a 2.75 cumulative GPA for certification.
Political Science is ideal for students aiming to make a global impact. The program equips students with political and policy expertise while cultivating valuable abilities—including data collection and analysis, research, critical thinking, and effective communication—applicable to diverse careers post-graduation. Specialization options cover American government, global politics, urban governance, constitutional law, public administration, and gender in politics. Beyond academics, internship opportunities allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.
Career Prospects
Alumni find success across multiple sectors, serving as legal professionals, government agency staffers, legislative and campaign team members, organizational leaders in public and private spheres, and advocates for social, environmental, and economic causes. The program's skill development and hands-on internship experience create competitive job candidates. Political Science graduates typically earn higher average salaries than Business Management peers at early and mid-career stages. The degree also serves as excellent preparation for graduate studies and is the most common undergraduate major among law school applicants
