The bachelor's degree (B.A.) program features classes in Ceramics, Interdisciplinary Studio, New Genres, Painting & Drawing, Photography, and Sculpture. This curriculum blends hands-on studio practice with exploration of visual arts' worldwide, historical, and academic dimensions, offering a structure to help students cultivate their personal artistic portfolio. The Interdisciplinary Studio Area merges creative work with targeted investigation to foster culturally relevant projects that transcend traditional studio boundaries. Rather than concentrating on specific art mediums, the Interdisciplinary Studio emphasizes creative methodologies. ID students engage with multiple art forms, academic fields, and societal issues, merging artistic creation with research to develop context-driven cultural projects that go beyond conventional studio art. Graduate students in this specialization receive primary guidance from faculty members Andrea Fraser and Cauleen Smith. ID graduate students are urged to collaborate with professors from other Art Department disciplines and utilize UCLA's vast academic resources throughout their three-year program. All M.F.A. candidates receive access to private off-campus studios at UCLA's Margo Leavin Graduate Art Studios in Culver City. These facilities include individual workspaces along with specialized labs for photography, sculpture, ceramics, and digital work, plus communal areas for shows, talks, and group evaluations. While summer graduate courses aren't available, students may use the graduate studios throughout the year.
