The UCLA Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures provides both bachelor's and advanced degrees in Ancient Near Eastern and Egyptological studies, delivering thorough academic training in these culturally and historically significant areas. Covering early societies in territories approximating today's Middle East, this field integrates multiple disciplines including art history, archaeology, historical studies, linguistic analysis, literary examination, and religious investigations. Students can select from diverse course offerings spanning these academic domains.

At all academic levels, the department fosters original research initiatives by providing numerous scholarly opportunities. Its faculty includes internationally recognized experts across all specializations (such as Levantine Studies, Near Eastern Archaeology, Egyptian Art and Architecture, Assyriology, Sumerology, Hebrew Scriptures, and Semitic Languages) who are committed to both groundbreaking research and student mentorship.
