Africana Studies majors share a collective goal to broaden and deepen their knowledge by exploring the artistic, economic, historical, literary, philosophical, political, sociological, scientific, and theological achievements of African diaspora communities across the Americas, with emphasis on the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America. The program investigates the lives and legacies of people of African descent in contemporary society through diverse courses spanning regions from the U.S. to Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. This interdisciplinary curriculum, drawing from humanities, social sciences, business, and communication, fosters intellectual rigor, creative thinking, and sociopolitical consciousness. By studying African history, education, politics, philosophy, religion, and racial dynamics, students gain a comprehensive perspective on the Africana experience, equipping them for both advanced academic pursuits and diverse professional paths.
