The graduate program in Networked Systems is jointly overseen by faculty from two departments: Computer Science (CS) in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) in The Henry Samueli School of Engineering. Students can pursue both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in this specialized field.
This program equips graduate students with educational and research opportunities focusing on computer and telecommunication networks. These systems encompass diverse technologies including telephone networks, cable TV infrastructure, wireless and mobile networks, ad hoc networks, cellular networks, and the global Internet. As an inherently multidisciplinary field, Networked Systems integrates software development, hardware engineering, and communication technologies, bridging conventional academic divisions. The discipline primarily builds upon foundations in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. At UCI, these complementary fields are represented across the CS and EECS departments. The Networked Systems program synergizes the strengths of both departments to deliver comprehensive graduate degree programs in this evolving domain.
