The UCI Dance Department fosters a learning space where students explore movement principles through structured dance experiences that bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application across technique, choreography, and teaching methods. Our program cultivates knowledgeable dancers who understand how to move their bodies safely, efficiently, and artistically while minimizing injury risks, helping them achieve peak performance capabilities through refined neuromuscular control.

Beyond foundational dance training, our curriculum includes specialized instruction in injury prevention and recovery, offering pathways into dance science and allied disciplines. Students examine musculoskeletal anatomy relevant to dance, study movement biomechanics, and apply kinesiological principles to both stationary and dynamic dance techniques. This scientific approach to movement analysis deepens students' technical comprehension while highlighting the consequences of improper execution.
