The School of Education provides a 14-month Master of Arts program specializing in Elementary and Secondary Education. The Single Subject Credential M.A.T. equips future educators to teach subjects like math, social studies, English, sciences, arts, or foreign languages in middle and high schools. Meanwhile, the Multiple Subject Credential M.A.T. trains students to instruct across all elementary grade levels and subjects, with an optional bilingual certification. This program combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, emphasizing the concept of Learning to Learn from Teaching - the ongoing evaluation of how instructional methods affect student outcomes. As an innovative interdisciplinary department, the School of Education dedicates itself to fostering academic achievement for diverse learners from early childhood through higher education via collaborative research, instruction, and community engagement. The faculty brings together experts from various fields including psychology, sociology, economics, linguistics, literacy studies, policy analysis, and diversity studies. Their research tackles pressing educational challenges: (1) ensuring equal opportunities for students from different ethnic, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; (2) enhancing STEM education; (3) advancing language and reading skills; (4) improving early childhood learning; (5) exploring non-traditional learning environments; and (6) integrating technology effectively into education. Three key themes - Learning, Cognition, and Development; Educational Policy and Social Context; and Language, Literacy, and Technology - form the foundation for all programs, including the Education minor, B.A. in Education Sciences, Ph.D. in Education, and the Master of Arts in Teaching Credential program. This academic community shares the fundamental belief that educational settings, both formal and informal, serve as transformative spaces that shape life quality and expand opportunities for learners throughout their lifespan.
